Simply fill out the Volunteer
Application then return the signed form by fax
or mail. Once we have created the custom artwork for your
box, we will make arrangements for delivery.
Although our drive is year round, you may
elect to opt out at any time, and you decide whether or not
your organization will be a host to the public or strictly
an internal-use location.
Either way, we encourage you to announce your involvement
to your customers, associates, friends and family to collect
as many cell phones as you can!
NEW! First Quarter '08 Donated Proceeds Matched By Raley's
Family of Fine Stores!
After only three months, just over
700 cell phones were collected and converted into $1,734.78
for Sierra Adoption Services. But wait, there's more!
Thanks to a special donation-matching
program by Raley's Family of Fine Stores, our total donation
was almost $3,500!!

These proceeds were presented to Board
President, Chuck Horton, and Bob Herne, Executive Director,
of Sierra Adoption Services by our Champions For Adoption
Team Lead, Daniel Root
in June.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. What types of cell phones do
you accept?
A.
The recycler, Phoneraiser, accepts every brand of cell phone
that you donate, working and non-working. If a phone cannot
be reused in another market, Phoneraiser will absorb the cost
of properly recycling it in accordance with state and federal
EPA guidelines.
Q. Do you accept accessories
such as earpieces, owner's manuals, and chargers?
A.
No,
Phoneraiser does not accept accessories such as earpieces, chargers,
manuals, etc. However, Phoneraiser encourages you to include
the cell phone batteries with your shipment, as batteries contain
many toxic substances and should be recycled properly.
Q. What does Phoneraiser
do with the cell phones it receives?
A.
If a cell phone cannot be reused in another market Phoneraiser
will absorb the cost of properly recycling it in accordance
with state and federal EPA guidelines. Used cell phones that
have an economic value are refurbished and reused in markets
utilizing compatible wireless technologies. Reuse reduces the
depletion of our Earth's finite resources. The proceeds from
the resale of these used items enable Phoneraiser to continually
expand its recycling efforts and provide less fortunate people
a means of obtaining an inexpensive technology.
Q. What happens to information stored in the cell phones?
A.
Cell phones that are recycled are completely dismantled, and
through this process the information is destroyed. Phones that
are reused in other markets are "flashed" to allow new software
to be loaded. This process erases the phone's memory and enables
a new number to be assigned. However, Phoneraiser strongly recommends
that donors clear the memories on their cell phones of any sensitive
private information before donating them. In addition, donors
should always ensure the service on any cell phone they donate
has been disconnected, to prevent fraudulent use. Phoneraiser
will not be responsible for any information left stored in the
memories of phones donated or their fraudulent use.
Q. Are phone donations
tax deductible?
A.
The value of most phones qualifies as a tax deductible donation.
Please contact your tax professional for more information.
Q.
Why are cell phones so harmful to the environment?
A.
Improper disposal of cell phones is a serious threat to our
environment. Every cell phone contains no less that 8 hazardous
materials including Arsenic, Antimony, Beryllium, Cadmium, Copper,
Lead, Nickel and Zinc. Disposing of these phones in a landfill
allows these substances to leach into groundwater and soil.
Burning them in an incinerator releases chemicals associated
with reproductive complications, cancers, and developmental
problems especially in children. In 2006 alone, more than 130
million cell phones were discarded. One cell phone can pollute
up to 132,000 liters of water.
